Job Summary:

The Hardware Store is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Retail Sales Associate to join our team. As a Cashier, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, processing sales quickly and accurately, and maintaining a safe and secure environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Ensure that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a friendly environment, greeting and acknowledging every customer, thanking every customer, and demonstrating solid product knowledge.
  • Product Knowledge: Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements to effectively communicate with customers.
  • Point of Sale Operations: Accurately and efficiently record the sale of items to the register by scanning all items while adhering to all safety and security procedures. Receive accurate payment for merchandise, make change, and process checks, credit, and debit charges according to proper departmental procedures.
  • Communication: Communicate customer requests to management and maintain an open line of communication with colleagues.
  • Store Appearance: Maintain an orderly appearance of the register area and ensure that supplies are stocked.
  • Cash Handling: Count money in the cash drawer at the beginning and end of the shift to ensure that amounts are correct and that there is adequate change. Order change, cash, and loans from the safe when needed, and notify a manager to make drops/deposits of excess funds to the safe.
  • Additional Tasks: Perform any other tasks as assigned from time to time by any manager.

Requirements:

  • Physical Ability: Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store, which entails lifting, and perform all functions as set forth above.
  • Availability: Available to work a varied schedule including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as needed.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to process information/merchandise through the register system.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with sales associates and customers.
  • Reading and Writing Skills: Ability to read, count, and write to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Mathematical Skills: Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Cash Handling Skills: Skill in handling and counting cash.
