Job Title: Caregiver - Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Caregiver - Direct Support Professional to join our team at Caregiver, Inc. Our mission is to enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to lead their unique lives with dignity, independence, and inclusion.

Job Summary:

The Caregiver - Direct Support Professional will provide direct support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, assisting them with daily living activities, training, and community access. This role requires a high level of empathy, patience, and understanding, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access.
  • Provide direct support to individuals in training activities, as specified in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and activity schedules.
  • Aid individuals in mobility, as needed, using wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
  • Assist with meal service, teaching dining skills and promoting social skills and personal dignity during meals.
  • Administer medications and treatments, according to company policy.
  • Act as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more individuals, ensuring their wellbeing at all times.
  • Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions, as scheduled.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals.
  • Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports, as directed by agency policy and procedure.
  • Assist individuals with transportation, as needed.
  • Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team, providing input toward the individual's ISP.
  • Monitor individuals' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed, and Universal Precaution Practices are followed.
  • Participate in and may be responsible for the daily operation of the home, in one or more of the following areas: grocery shopping, overseeing individuals' money, monitoring the physical plant and van maintenance, or monitoring house medications.
  • Perform related duties, as required or assigned, to fulfill the agency philosophy and the goals and objectives of the program site.
Qualifications:
  • A high school education or its equivalent is preferred.
  • Some previous experience in supporting/assisting those with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks, as required by federal and/or state laws, and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings, as mandated by a governing agency or the company.
