Job Summary

The Pharmacist PRN-Inpatient-Days role at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems is a critical position that requires a highly skilled and dedicated professional to ensure the safe and effective use of medications in our inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and verify all drug-related orders to ensure proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
  • Resolve drug therapy problems, clarify and correct problematic drug orders, and designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments.
  • Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of pharmacy technicians to ensure efficient and accurate preparation and dispensing of medications.
Requirements
  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
  • Previous experience with state-of-the-art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Ph.D.) from an accredited academic program.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
Work Environment

The Pharmacist PRN-Inpatient-Days will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent and intense customer interactions. The ability to adapt to frequent changes and handle multiple priorities is essential.

Physical Requirements
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, and walking.
  • Strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, and logical thinking.
