Compensation: $11-14/hourly

Job Overview:

As a Museum Attendant, your primary responsibility will be to warmly welcome and assist visitors as they explore the model train museum. You will provide insightful answers to inquiries about the museum and general information related to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. In your role as a Retail Sales Associate, you will deliver exceptional customer service, manage transactions, and ensure a pleasant shopping experience for all customers. This position is collaborative in nature, and you may be required to undertake additional responsibilities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Restock merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables as needed.
  • Greet every customer entering the store with a friendly demeanor.
  • Assist customers in locating and selecting merchandise.
  • Provide accurate information regarding product pricing and usage.
  • Calculate total sales including applicable taxes for customer purchases.
  • Process payments and provide correct change.
  • Package or bag items for customers efficiently.
  • Maintain clean and organized displays with fresh merchandise.
  • Ensure the store remains tidy and orderly throughout operational hours.
  • Engage with visitors during their museum experience, offering assistance as needed.
  • Properly operate all lighting and model train equipment within the museum.
  • Set up barriers for property maintenance and manage their return at the end of the day.
  • Keep the museum environment clean, including glass surfaces, floors, and waste disposal.
  • Encourage visitors of the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad to explore the museum.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries and share stories about the train and the surrounding region.
  • Ensure that visitors do not handle the models or scenery within the displays.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Retail Manager or senior management.
Qualifications:

Education, Skills, and Experience:

Prior experience in retail or customer service with cash handling is preferred.

Ability to effectively interact with coworkers, vendors, and customers.

A strong commitment to customer service and guest satisfaction is essential.

Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends.

Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with visitors.

Willingness to learn about model railroading to enhance customer interactions.

Work Environment:

Operating cash registers and assisting customers during their visits to the retail shop and museum.
