Job Title: Feeder Operator

Join TSG - The Sheridan Group as a Feeder Operator and contribute to the production of high-quality printed materials. As a key member of our team, you will assist the Operator in the production process, ensuring the efficient operation of web presses and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Read and understand work orders to verify correct substrate, bind type, ink color, and run lengths.
  • Order substrate, considering the needs of the oncoming shift, and set up the stacker and bundler to send adequate and well-identified bundles to the bindery.
  • Understand substrate characteristics, including weights, PPI, size, grain direction, coating, marking, and storage.
  • Load the correct substrate into the machine, tracking slab-off, waste consumption, and return weights.
  • Learn all phases of the press operation and ensure bundles conform to bindery needs, including proper identification.
  • Dispose of waste properly, including printed and blank substrate, and ensure all skids are safely stacked and wrapped before leaving the press area.
  • Assist the Operator as needed and run the press effectively in their temporary absence.
  • Collaborate with maintenance personnel to repair machines and exercise initiative to improve productivity.
  • Keep the area safe and clean, communicate effectively with the oncoming shift, and perform end-of-shift duties to leave the area ready for the next shift.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or one to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, read and interpret documents, and use basic math skills.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to work with software packages, such as Microsoft Office, Flex, and PrintStream.
Physical Requirements:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and 20 lbs. constantly.
  • Adjust or move objects up to 50 lbs. in all directions.
  • Work in noisy environments and occasionally perform activities such as ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments.
