Power Plant Operations Technician

The New York Power Authority is seeking a highly skilled Power Plant Operations Technician to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our Astoria 500 MW Combined Cycle Plant.
Key Responsibilities
As a Power Plant Operations Technician, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining all plant components, including gas and steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators, environmental control systems, and fuel systems. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting and performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation equipment and mechanical/electrical systems. Additionally, you will be required to work a rotating 12-hour shift and be able to operate the control board within one year of employment.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a minimum of 5 years of experience in gas turbine power plant or military/marine power plant applications in operation and maintenance of these systems. You will also need to have an A.A.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent. You must be able to climb ladders and work on heights, lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and qualify to wear a full-face respirator and maintain the qualifications.
Physical Requirements
This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make independent judgments and decisions while performing self-directed work with minimal supervision. You must also be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
