Position Overview:
UPMC Muncy Surgical Services is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Surgical Technician to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures within our facility.

Work Schedule:
Variable Day Shift with no on-call or weekend obligations.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Surgical Technician, you will:
1. Operate under the direct guidance of a Clinician to support the safe and efficient execution of both invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures.
2. Organize and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies to guarantee their proper utilization and availability for optimal patient care.
3. Perform advanced tasks regularly in the operating room, assisting the surgical team during complex procedures across multiple surgical specialties.
4. Prepare the operating room by arranging sterile setups, passing instruments, and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for use.
5. Maintain accountability for the management of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order and adequately stocked.

Educational and Professional Requirements:
1. Completion of a formal surgical technician program from an accredited institution.
2. A minimum of three years of current experience in an operating room setting.
3. Advanced knowledge in at least two surgical specialties, with a preference for one year of experience in a selected specialty.

Licensure and Certifications:
1. Current CPR certification in accordance with AHA standards, including both theoretical and practical components.
2. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC).
3. Compliance with Act 34 requirements.

Skills and Competencies:
1. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, specialty team members, and other departments.
2. Demonstrated initiative in problem-solving related to patient care and technical issues.
3. Ability to supervise and mentor junior surgical technicians and students.
