Janitorial Worker

Under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Director and Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this role performs a variety of janitorial duties to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of assigned rooms, buildings, and related City facilities.

• Sweep, scrub, and wax floors to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets to ensure a tidy and well-maintained space.
• Clean restrooms to maintain hygiene and cleanliness standards.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles to prevent odors and pests.
• Wash and dust windows, walls, and blinds to maintain a clean and well-maintained appearance.
• Clean walkways, sidewalks, and parking lots to ensure a safe and accessible environment.
• Inspect buildings for safety, fire, and sanitary hazards and report to supervisor.
• Operate a variety of electrical cleaning equipment to maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Maintain janitorial equipment and supplies to ensure a well-stocked and functional workspace.
• Perform various tasks in moving or rearranging furniture, desks, and other equipment to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Set up rooms for meetings to ensure a clean and well-maintained space.
• Answer general questions from the public and City staff to provide excellent customer service.
• May assist in training less experienced staff to ensure a well-trained and knowledgeable team.

• Ability to work with other employees as a team to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
• Knowledge of methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures.
• Knowledge of cleaning materials and disinfectants, equipment, and tools used in janitorial work.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Ability to use tools required in janitorial work.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, and kneel.
