Job Title: Public Works Director

Join Citrus County, FL as a Public Works Director and lead the planning, direction, and evaluation of the Department of Public Works. As a key member of the County's leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality services to our citizens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of assigned staff, ensuring the delivery of excellent services to our citizens.
  • Provide professional direction and planning for the Department of Public Works, including budgeting and evaluating services.
  • Collaborate with County Administrator, Board of County Commissioners, and department heads to ensure alignment with County goals and objectives.
  • Attend and participate in Board of County Commissioners' meetings, reporting on research, special projects, and other relevant information.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Board of County Commissioners, administration, citizens, and other county departments to schedule work and provide status reports.
  • Confer with local, state, and federal agencies on regulations and requirements for public works activities.
  • Prepare and implement annual work plans, goals, and objectives, reviewing all plans for system improvements and development activities.
  • Provide preparation and input to the annual budget process and monitor operational expenditures.
  • Assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships, identifying opportunities for improvement and directing changes.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the County, providing expertise on engineering and public works matters.
  • Prepare and present recurring reports and special reports and programs as needed.
  • Participate in professional organizations, staying up-to-date on issues and events affecting public works.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience in Civil Engineering and/or Public Works, with three (3) years in an administrative/managerial capacity.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida.
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups, and the public.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of planning, management, and scheduling of public works projects.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local construction and maintenance procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, road construction, storm water, sidewalk, water quality, and other related infrastructure project management.
  • Strong working knowledge of computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products.
  • Certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses, including IS-100.c, IS-200.b, IS-700.b, and IS-800.c.
