POSITION OVERVIEW
This role is for a mid-level specialist in instrumentation and control systems engineering.

The ideal candidate will possess robust technical skills to execute engineering responsibilities, demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight, and have a solid understanding of structured industrial projects. Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal formats are essential.

Our mid-level specialists are expected to operate largely independently, with foundational guidance from a senior engineer or project manager.

This position necessitates sufficient technical experience and proficiency to manage the majority of controls and instrumentation engineering tasks across various projects without senior assistance, while also being able to swiftly identify when a more experienced engineer's input is required.

A successful applicant may choose to pursue either a technical career trajectory or a leadership and management pathway.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide engineering support for a range of capital and maintenance projects
- Develop project scopes during the detailed design phase; contribute to project plans and deliverable lists
- Review and offer feedback on basic project timelines
- Create project Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) of moderate complexity
- Develop procurement specifications, documentation, and data sheets of basic to moderate complexity
- Establish engineering budgets for smaller projects
- Generate basic Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates and Material Take-Offs (MTO)
- Operate within an engineering budget, forecast work, and manage project scope and budget
- Create detailed specifications and construction packages
- Draft comprehensive construction scope of work documents for basic to moderately complex projects
- Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) on vendor equipment, with potential travel requirements.
- Perform quality assurance checks on personal work
- Adhere to Anvil Corp's Project Services Quality System (PSQS)
- Execute tasks with minimal supervision and guidance
- Collaborate within a small team of engineers and designers; guide and mentor the design team in developing construction work packages
- Coordinate with other technical resource groups and project management to fulfill project requirements
- Build and maintain productive relationships with vendor and client representatives

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficient in reading and developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
- Capable of as-building control and instrument systems in the field, providing accurate document and drawing markups
- Skilled in specifying and sizing instrumentation for various industrial control applications: flow, pressure, level, temperature
- Able to identify when unique solutions are necessary for instrumentation and control challenges in demanding environments
- Proficient in specifying and sizing control valves and regulators: self-contained, pneumatic, sliding stem, and rotary
- Knowledgeable in material and alloy considerations for instruments across diverse industrial processes
- Experienced in specifying and designing infrastructure for industrial communication and control networks
- Capable of specifying and designing wiring, conduit, and cable tray methods for NEC-hazardous classified areas
- Competent in preparing detailed project designs in compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and client standards

- Integrate control strategies and wiring with electrical motor controls related to motor starters, VFDs, electrical safety relays, and monitoring networks.


OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS
- Familiarity with stage-gated project processes and requirements
- Ability to prioritize tasks based on direction from team leaders and project managers
- Effectiveness in a team-oriented environment, both in-person and remotely
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Experience in developing engineering and design budgets and contributing to project timelines
- Capability to identify and propose solutions for drawing consistency, quality, and presentation issues in deliverables.
- Detail-oriented with a strong self-motivated work ethic
- Ability to assess equipment in the field, including climbing ladders and navigating uneven surfaces
- Willingness to travel to remote work sites as necessary

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering - required
- 3-15 years of professional experience in the oil and gas or related industry - required
- P.E. or Professional Engineer in Control Systems Engineering - preferred
- ISA or TUV certification in Functional Safety - preferred

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic working knowledge of INtools (SPI)
- Experience in specifying and designing Pressure Safety Valves
- Some exposure to front-end project development (FEL 1-2)
- Familiarity with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Basic understanding of PLC and DCS HMI design, point configuration, and control types
- Introductory DCS and/or PLC programming experience
- Basic knowledge of specialty instrumentation and control for rotating equipment
- Experience working on-site at an industrial facility in maintenance, reliability, or project groups
- Capability to specify and size motor-operated valves (MOVs) and associated control schemes
- Basic understanding of analyzers for various applications, both in-situ and extractive
- Ability to interpret and design ladder logic for both hardwired relay systems and software
- Develop test plans and conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Tests; review and approve vendor FAT/SAT plans

- Create high-level and detailed control design and configuration documents, such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effects diagrams, Logic diagrams, and block diagrams.

Understand and engage in Process Hazard Assessments (PHAs) and Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to sit/stand, type, and perform computer work for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands/fingers for computer entry and communication.
- Capability to perform occasional bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift 15 lbs if necessary.
- Ability to work in heavy industrial environments: climb ladders, work from elevated surfaces, and traverse uneven surfaces while wearing required PPE.
