Job Description:


The Solution Center at Iowa State University (ISU) offers an excellent opportunity to advance your career as an Information Technology Support I. In this role, you will guide student workers and establish a customer success framework that delivers friendly, precise, and professional technical assistance to the ISU community.


Your responsibilities will include working in a technical setting to address inquiries, ensuring prompt and accurate resolutions, overseeing quality assurance measures, updating technical documentation, and supporting various special projects.

This position involves responding to incidents, facilitating tier-level support, and guaranteeing high-quality customer interactions.


This on-campus role is part of Information Technology Services (ITS), a department dedicated to providing essential computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to students, faculty, and staff.

ITS collaborates with technology specialists across the campus to deliver specialized IT resources to academic and administrative units.


The ITS Solution Center fosters a collaborative culture that serves as a single point of contact for problem resolution for Iowa State University faculty, staff, students, and visitors concerning information technology services.

Your eagerness to learn, ability to prioritize, troubleshooting skills, adaptability, and strong verbal and written communication abilities will contribute to the Solution Center's mission of assisting the Iowa State University community with issues related to computer software, hardware, and networking on a daily basis.

The expected work schedule is 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (with a 1-hour meal break) or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (with a 30-minute meal break), Monday through Friday. This position will also participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after-hours emergency support.

Example of Duties:

  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting for various hardware, software, operating systems, equipment, and applications.
  • Advises on hardware and software selection, escalating cases that require advanced capabilities.
  • Utilizes enterprise support technologies.
  • Facilitates support for advanced scientific equipment and software.
  • Delivers first-tier computer support, escalating more complex issues to senior technical staff.
  • Installs hardware, repairs software, and runs diagnostic programs as assigned.
  • Performs routine backups of system and data files; executes restores as requested.
  • Documents assigned systems and relevant procedures.
  • Diagnoses technical issues through discussions with users.

Level Guidelines:

  • Entry-level position acquiring job skills and learning standard operating procedures and policies to complete tasks.
  • Works under relatively close supervision and receives guidance on new work assignments.
  • Handles assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment.
  • Refers difficult or less routine issues to supervisors or higher-level staff for assistance.
  • May provide guidance to students.
