Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with Day-to-Day Operations: Collaborate with the department manager/supervisor to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the grossing staff.
  • Perform Gross Examinations: Conduct gross examinations of surgical pathology specimens under appropriate supervision, including large, complex, and complicated specimens.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Offer technical instructions, training, and guidance to pathologist assistants, grossing technicians, students, and lab assistants in techniques, instrumentation, and organization of work.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Ensure compliance with all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards, as well as local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and notify the histology supervisor/manager, technical supervisor, or director as needed.
  • Workflow Coordination: Coordinate and monitor workflow to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in the development and monitoring of quality indicators for the Quality Management Program (QMP).
  • Continuing Education: Comply with Quest Diagnostics corporate continuing education requirements for grossing personnel, as well as those required to maintain state licensure and/or certification.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Licensure: Current state licensure
  • Certification: ASCP PA certification
  • Experience: Preferred 1 year surgical gross experience, including large complex/complicated specimens, and completion of a NAACLS-approved pathologist assistant training program.
