Job Title: Lead Lifeguard

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Kansas City. As a Lead Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our members and program participants in the pool areas. You will provide leadership to other aquatics team members and work closely with the Aquatics Director to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Continuously scan the pool, whirlpool, and sauna areas to ensure safe conditions.
  • Maintain high levels of alertness at all times.
  • Enforce all posted rules and ensure the safety of all participants.
  • Test pool chemical levels and record in chemical logs.
  • Responsible for opening, closing, and security reports.
  • Ensure automatic chlorinator is full and adds chemicals as directed by the Aquatics Director.
  • Responsible for maintaining the continuity of lap swim and moving participants accordingly.
  • Notify appropriate associates of any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries immediately.
  • Fill out all Y accident and incident reports completely and turn them in to the Aquatics Director.
  • Monitor all associates in the pool area and ensure proper ratios of lifeguards to swimmers.
  • Assist and assign duties for a clean Y, keep hallways and locker rooms picked up.
  • Assist in managing departmental operations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Minimum one year experience as a certified Lifeguard.
  • Must have a current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification, such as YMCA Lifeguard 6th ED, ARC, Starguard, Jeff Ellis and Associates, or Boy Scouts of America.
  • Must have current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen from one of the following organizations: American Health and Safety Institute, Emergency Care and Safety Institute, or American Red Cross.
  • Able to pass a physical competency test consisting of swimming 250 yards without stopping, treading water for 2 minutes, and performing 100 chest compressions on a mannequin.
  • Able to relate and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
