Job Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Medical Anthropology to join our team at the University of Pittsburgh. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field and a strong research background in medical anthropology.

Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in medical anthropology, including large lecture courses and smaller seminars
  • Develop and maintain an active research program, pursuing external funding and collaborating with other communities and institutions
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Contribute to departmental and university administration, participating in intellectual life and committee work
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Anthropology or a closely related field
  • Research expertise in medical anthropology, with a focus on health inequities and related themes
  • Teaching experience in medical anthropology, with a focus on participatory methodologies and engaged anthropology
  • Ability to develop and teach courses that reflect areas of expertise
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with community engagement and participatory research
  • Research focus on North America, with a focus on regional strengths and complementarity
  • Expertise in Science and Technology Studies, Environment and the Anthropocene, Labor Precarity, Politics, Mobility, Migration, and Citizenship, Language, Media, and Circulation, and Crisis and Futures
