About the Role:
Job Summary
Under the supervision of a Neurologist and Supervisor, the Neurodiagnostic Technician conducts neurophysiological assessments at a technical level. This role requires comprehensive knowledge in identifying both normal and abnormal electrical brain activity. Responsibilities include setting up tests, applying electrodes, and ensuring patient safety during critical clinical events. The technician performs a range of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment and creativity in applying neurophysiology techniques for neurological evaluations. The technician is accountable for specific procedural areas and provides care across all age groups, from newborns to the elderly.
Minimum Job Qualifications
- Licensure or Certifications: Current BCLS certification; EEG Certification is required upon hire or within two years.
- Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience: A minimum of one year of supervised training or clinical experience in a laboratory environment is essential. Experience with various modalities such as EEG, EP, IOM, LTM, and NCS is preferred.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
- The technologist is knowledgeable about the protocols for completing technical reports, charging procedures, and patient file management.
- Operates neurodiagnostic equipment in accordance with specifications to produce quality studies. Adheres to infection control and safety protocols. Maintains a clean and organized work area. Responsible for maintaining the electroneurodiagnostic unit during studies, identifying and performing basic technical troubleshooting, including artifact identification and elimination, and understanding how to repair faulty electrodes. Follows safety practices, including infection control standards, proper lead placement, patient observation/documentation, and equipment cleaning. Consistently produces quality studies within established protocols. Maintains patient records in accordance with departmental procedures. Properly assesses patients according to the ordered exam with appropriate documentation (i.e., checking orders, reviewing patient history and diagnosis, and patient preparation). Provides relevant patient education regarding the exam being performed and documents this in the patient record. Meets productivity standards as defined by the department.
- Performs non-technical duties as assigned (e.g., stocking rooms, transporting patients, ordering supplies). Attends departmental meetings and participates in assigned training and education courses. Stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures. Assists in training new staff. Engages in special projects and other related duties as assigned.
