Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of blood and blood components at WMCHealth. This role involves a range of activities, including logging in units, thawing plasma, and maintaining lab equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performing type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification
  • Calculating and preparing blood for exchange transfusion
  • Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels
  • Recording all quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
  • Ensuring all blood components intended for transfusion are in accordance with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP, and NYBC
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Experience: Transfusion Service or as a Generalist with prior Blood Bank experience preferred
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or Medical Technology
  • Licenses/Certifications: Clinical Laboratory Technologists
