Job Overview

SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare services by adhering to established guidelines and protocols. Responsibilities include obtaining specimens, performing routine laboratory tests, and assisting with administrative tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The following outlines the essential functions of this position, although additional tasks may be assigned as needed:

  • Welcomes and prepares patients for their appointments or procedures; conducts patient interviews; measures and records vital signs.
  • Executes routine laboratory and radiology tests on patients as per established protocols.
  • Keeps nursing stations and examination areas compliant with OSHA standards and Universal Precautions.
  • Manages inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Handles and screens incoming telephone calls.
  • Coordinates patient appointment scheduling as required.
  • Facilitates patient flow through the office.
  • Maintains accurate office and patient records, including filing and retrieving test results or charts.
  • Assists with medication refills for patients, strictly under the guidance of a Doctor, PA, NP, or LPN.
  • Documents all patient care activities in a timely, clear, and complete manner, in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares necessary forms for physician approval.
  • Engages in ongoing education to enhance skills and stay updated with current practices and technologies.
  • Implements safety protocols as outlined by established policies.
  • Ensures adherence to legal standards, including patient confidentiality and risk management, while complying with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, courtesy, and tact when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
  • Adapts to varying patient flow and operational demands while maintaining high-quality service.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Contributes to quality improvement initiatives.
