Job Title: Pharmacist Poison Center

UnityPoint Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Pharmacist Poison Center to join our team. As a key member of our poison control center, you will play a vital role in providing expert clinical information and case management advice to the public, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical information and case management advice for telephone calls received by the Iowa Poison Control Center.
  • Answer drug information questions beyond the scope of knowledge of a RN Specialist in Poison Information.
  • Assess the seriousness of situations and determine whether patients should be seen by a healthcare provider.
  • Utilize resources such as Poisindex, triage and clinical guidelines, reference books, and on-call toxicologists to manage poisoned/overdosed patients.
  • Provide follow-up calls and callbacks as needed to ensure patient status, symptom resolution, and compliance with recommended therapy.
  • Deliver high-quality care while demonstrating knowledge and skills of clinical toxicology in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Document all calls and consultations on the Iowa Poison Control Center's computerized medical record system.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a PharmD degree.
  • Hospital experience considered, with experience in critical care or ER preferred.
  • Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Pharmacist in Iowa or ability to obtain pharmacist licensure in Iowa.
  • BCPS certification highly desirable, with BLS and ACLS certification preferred.
