Position Overview

The Assistant Manager of Building and Safety plays a crucial role in supporting the Building and Safety Manager by overseeing the daily operations of building inspections and plan reviews. This mid-level supervisory position requires a blend of administrative expertise and technical knowledge in building codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive technical and administrative support to the Building and Safety Manager.
  • Assist in the management and organization of the building inspection and plan review teams.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.
  • Address complex inquiries and complaints, ensuring effective resolution.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of division objectives, policies, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and ordinances, reviewing and approving intricate plans.
  • Guide staff in making informed decisions regarding technical issues related to inspections and plan reviews.
  • Stay updated on new construction methods, materials, and regulatory changes.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the division's annual budget, monitoring expenditures and making necessary adjustments.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Building and Safety Manager during their absence.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • A solid understanding of building inspection processes and safety regulations.
  • Experience in managing teams and overseeing complex projects.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A relevant educational background, ideally with an Associate's degree in building construction, engineering, or architecture.
  • Significant experience in building plans examination and inspection, including supervisory experience.
