Position Summary:
- The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is responsible for selecting and administering various anesthetics, including intravenous and spinal methods, during surgical or medical procedures, as part of the anesthesia care team, adhering to healthcare policies and protocols.
- Monitors patient responses and vital signs throughout the anesthesia process and takes necessary actions as required.
- Documents postoperative conditions and maintains comprehensive records of administered anesthetics.
- Conducts procedures outside of the operating room, in compliance with established policies and physician directives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs and/or reviews anesthetic evaluations of patients prior to surgical interventions, collaborating with anesthesiologists and surgeons.
- Examines patient records, including permits, pre-operative medications, and lab results, ensuring all significant variations are noted in accordance with departmental policies.
- Assesses patients for potential airway management issues and ensures thorough documentation of pre-anesthesia evaluations.
- Communicates tests, procedures, and health conditions to patients and their families, explaining major anesthetic risks as needed.
- Develops and reviews care plans with supervising physicians, implements anesthesia strategies, initiates IV solutions, and administers anesthetics while monitoring patient safety and surgical requirements.
- Collaborates with post-anesthesia care unit staff to ensure safe patient transitions from the surgical environment.
- Observes and records vital signs, reporting any significant changes to the anesthesiologist or surgeon, and takes necessary remedial actions.
- Prepares anesthetic solutions to specified concentrations.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of procedures and patient conditions prior to anesthesia administration.
- Conducts procedures outside the operating room, such as intubation and arterial line placements, in line with established competencies and physician orders.
- Healthcare reserves the right to review and modify job descriptions and compensation structures as necessary.
Qualifications:Experience:
- Not applicable
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and an accredited anesthesia school by the time of hire.
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (California) required upon hire.
- Registered Nurse License (California) required upon hire from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support certification required upon hire.
- National Provider Identifier required upon hire.
Additional Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements and legal implications of anesthesia care.
- Ability to exercise professional judgment based on clinical evidence.
- Proven adherence to precautionary measures in patient care.
- Demonstrated teamwork and strong communication skills.
- Knowledgeable in interpersonal relations, customer service, adaptability, and change management.
- Ability to work within a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
- Eligibility for Medicare/Medi-Cal enrollment, requiring current certification from recognized organizations.
