Key Responsibilities

The primary objective of the Imaging Technologist role is to deliver comprehensive Radiology services, utilizing x-ray technology, magnetic resonance imaging, and advanced computer processing techniques for both inpatients and outpatients at University Hospital Newark. This position involves performing radiographic examinations to visualize vascular structures for interpretation and/or therapeutic procedures as requested by licensed medical professionals. The technologist is expected to exercise professional judgment throughout their duties and maintain a demeanor that aligns with the values and mission of University Hospital Newark. The role requires collaboration and effective communication with patients, physicians, nursing staff, administrators, and other hospital personnel, ensuring all interactions adhere to established institutional guidelines. Procedures must be conducted in accordance with NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) standards and the principles of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a valid NJ Department of Environmental Protection Diagnostic Radiography license and current ARRT certification, or be ARRT eligible. If ARRT eligible, certification must be obtained within one year of employment and maintained throughout the duration of employment. A minimum of two years of experience in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Proficiency in computer operations is essential. The successful applicant must also maintain valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR from the American Heart Association. Additionally, the individual must be able to pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test, and wear an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in compliance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment. Annual Respirator Fit Testing is mandatory.

Candidates must possess certification in the relevant services for which they are applying, including MRI, Cat Scan (CT), and Angiography.

Credential Requirements: NJDEP Licenses & ARRT; BLS

Verification of Credentials: NJDEP; ARRT; University Hospital's designated Background Check Company

Physical Requirements: The role necessitates the ability to lift up to twenty pounds. Candidates must be capable of walking and standing for extended periods while wearing protective equipment such as lead aprons. Good manual dexterity and hearing acuity are essential. The position involves sitting for less than one-third of the time, using hands for handling or feeling for two-thirds of the time, reaching with hands and arms for less than one-third of the time, and engaging in stooping, crawling, kneeling, or crouching for less than one-third of the time. Communication through talking or hearing is required for more than two-thirds of the time.

Work Environment: The work setting is characterized by moderate noise levels, similar to a business office with computers and printers, and light traffic. There is potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment.
