Job Summary

The Department of Neurosurgery at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Neurosurgeon with fellowship training/specialty focus in Complex Spine/Spinal Deformity neurosurgery. This position is for a full-time faculty appointment at an academic level commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing a complex spine program, teaching and participating in multidisciplinary clinical measures, and providing patient care. Additionally, the faculty member will engage in medical student and neurosurgery resident and fellow education, and coordinate and manage surgical aspects of spinal research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical: Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Candidates with appropriate training and experience may be asked to provide adult/general neurosurgical services.
  • Teaching: The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurosurgery residents, and fellows.
  • Research: The faculty member will be expected to conduct research and/or clinical trials in an academic setting with other PIs, learners, and students.
  • Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field.

Required Qualifications
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurosurgery
  • Eligibility for Virginia medical license
  • Fellowship training in Complex Spine/Spinal Deformity
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications
  • Competency in general/adult Neurosurgery
