Job Summary

The Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking an open rank, part-time faculty member in colon and rectal surgery. The successful candidate will work closely with the GI department on inflammatory bowel disease, partner with the Massey Cancer Center in colon-rectal/anal malignancies, and help expand services to community clinics. The faculty member will also support the division with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of colon & rectal surgery as well as applied anatomy and physiology.
• Research: Although this position has no specific assigned research responsibilities, reasonable scholarly activities such as publications, presentations at national meetings, and participation in appropriate academic organizations are expected.
• Clinical: Duties will include clinical responsibilities in all areas of colon and rectal surgery to include the provision of call coverage proportional to the clinical FTE.
• Service: The faculty member will serve on departmental and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.

Requirements

• Must be board certified/board eligible in general surgery.
• Completion of a fellowship in colorectal surgery.
• Commitment to laboratory and/or clinical research is required.
• Experience teaching residents and medical students.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in robotic surgery.
