Position Overview: The Program in Journalism at Princeton University, in collaboration with the Council of the Humanities, invites experienced journalists to submit proposals for teaching seminars in journalism and creative nonfiction as Visiting Scholars.

Opportunities Available: We offer both full-time and part-time positions for one-semester terms. Our program emphasizes a commitment to a strong, ethical, and inclusive press, which is vital for a thriving democracy.

Responsibilities: Full-time visitors will take a formal leave from their journalism careers to focus on teaching. They are expected to be present on campus four days a week, engage in faculty activities, and contribute to university life through talks, panels, and student advisement. Part-time visitors will be required to spend two full days on campus each week for the duration of the term and are encouraged to attend faculty gatherings.

Course Structure: Seminars will convene weekly for three hours, with a maximum enrollment of 15 students. Participants will dedicate approximately six hours weekly to class preparation, including submitting assignments for critique during one-on-one writing conferences. Professors may also invite guest speakers and organize visits to media organizations.

Compensation: Part-time positions offer a salary of $37,500, while full-time roles provide a salary of $75,000.

Application Process: Interested candidates should submit a résumé or CV highlighting recent publications, a seminar proposal, and a cover letter detailing their teaching interests. We encourage innovative and interdisciplinary course proposals.

Course Topics: Potential seminar topics include but are not limited to:

  • Data Journalism
  • Journalism and Public Health
  • Covering Politics
  • Visual Journalism

Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a distinguished record in journalism or nonfiction writing, possess effective communication skills, and have at least five years of experience in a news organization or major publications. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
