Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for visits by using appropriate rooming standards tools.
  • Administer injections, as prescribed by providers and in accordance with practice protocols.
  • Provide gross observations to providers or licensed nurses for interpretation as necessary.
  • Prepare and administer medications as prescribed by providers in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by providers.
  • Perform Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
  • Provide clinical advice by phone/electronic correspondence in accordance with established triage protocols and relay information to patients.
  • Authorize prescription refills as directed by providers.
  • Assist in test tracking and monitoring overdue results.
  • Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit.
  • Assist with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventive and chronic disease services.
  • Perform care coordination activities among specialists and transitions of care to obtain all necessary patient information.
  • Assist in the coordination of referrals, education, and community resources.
  • Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.
  • Participate in daily huddles with providers.
  • Serve as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Communicate with all patients, visitors, and colleagues in a professional manner while keeping customer service a top priority.
  • Handle all patient information in a confidential manner according to Lancaster General Health privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification from an accredited institution (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or NAHTR) is required. If not currently certified, completed a Medical Assistant training/education program prior to hire and receive Medical Assistant Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • CPR Certification required: American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support, formerly Healthcare Provider (AHA Heart Saver AMA CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Valid driver's license is required for Regional Positions only.
  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e., not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal or state health insurance program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) to two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience in a primary or specialty care physician's office.
Work Environment

This role may necessitate occasional regional travel. For Regional Positions, travels regularly to various sites within the region to support operational needs.
