Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Chief of Primary Care is responsible for ensuring the provision of comprehensive healthcare services to veteran patients. This position reports directly to the Chief of Primary Care Services.

The scope of care encompasses Primary Care services while also providing indirect oversight for all medical, surgical, and ancillary services offered at the facility.

The incumbent will lead, guide, and supervise primary care providers daily, collaborating with the Health Administration Supervisor and Nursing Supervisor to implement and maintain the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model, ensuring timely access and high patient satisfaction.

Clinical expertise is essential for managing the primary care program, focusing on patient satisfaction, quality of care, and accessibility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparation of annual proficiency reports
  • Quarterly updates and feedback on OPPE
  • Recruitment of healthcare providers
  • Preparation of P4P documents
  • Providing feedback for EPRP
  • Completion of FPPE
  • Managing disciplinary actions
  • Approving leave and time cards
  • Developing clinic profiles
  • Collaborating with patient advocates to address complaints
  • Preparing controlled correspondence
  • Participating in the Fayetteville Primary Care Service Line
  • Other duties as assigned

In collaboration with the Associate Chief of Primary Care Service Line, the incumbent will plan, organize, develop, implement, control, and refine a comprehensive patient management, clinical support, and administrative program. This program will provide the necessary services and technical counsel to meet clinical, procedural, legal, and administrative requirements related to outpatient care, maximizing the utilization of patient care resources efficiently and cost-effectively.

Broad clinical and administrative expertise is required to meet the needs of the patient population, integrating primary functions into the care delivery of the Fayetteville Health Care Center and coordinating veteran care with other VA and non-VA entities.

The incumbent may also serve as a member, leader, or champion of process improvement teams and leadership committees, such as Medical Staff, PACT, Peer Review, and others.

Active leadership and decision-making for the organization will be expected, including strategic planning, budget management, and performance improvement initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical requirements include moderate lifting, standing, walking, and the ability to distinguish basic colors and hearing (aid permitted).
