Burlingame, California, United States Triton Medical Robotics Full time

Company Overview: Triton Robotics, a segment of Neptune Medical, is a pioneering and dynamic venture capital-backed medical device start-up based in Silicon Valley. We have successfully launched innovative medical devices utilizing our proprietary Dynamic RigidizationTM technology. Currently, we are embarking on an extraordinary project: the creation of a fully flexible medical robotic platform designed to transform the landscape of manual endoscopy. Our vision is to establish our technology as the benchmark for endoluminal robotics for years to come.

Position Title: Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer, Endoscope and Catheter

Position Overview: The Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and introduction of endoscopes and catheters that leverage our advanced rigidizing technology. You will guide your innovative concepts through all stages, from initial definition and ideation to engineering and clinical evaluation, ultimately leading to market introduction. This role offers the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art composite rigidization technology and enhance its capabilities.

The ideal candidate will exhibit enthusiasm and dedication in a fast-paced, collaborative medical device start-up environment and demonstrate the ability to meet the outlined requirements. For the right individual, this position represents an exciting and career-defining opportunity to contribute significantly to a groundbreaking medical robotic platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adopt both experimental and analytical methodologies to create specific designs for applying our rigidizing technology in robotic applications.
  • Engage with various catheter and endoscope technologies, including:
    • Coiling, braiding, and laser-cut hypotubes
    • Extrusions and films
    • Steering and bending sections
    • Thermal and adhesive bonding
    • Coatings
  • Contribute to the development of specifications, testing methods, and protocols to ensure the functionality, safety, and efficacy of medical devices in compliance with industry regulations and design controls.
  • Evaluate and recommend solutions for complex design challenges at both component and system levels through inspection, testing, analysis, and experimentation.
  • Engage in hands-on construction and testing of multiple prototype iterations.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to minimize costs and streamline assembly processes.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers.
  • Interact with healthcare professionals and users to validate assumptions and refine product definitions.
  • Create and maintain SolidWorks CAD models and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Develop analytical documentation, including testing methods, protocols, structural analyses, and test reports.
  • Lead technical design reviews, presenting design inputs, outputs, and unresolved issues.
  • Generate innovative ideas that enhance the company's intellectual property portfolio in endoscopic robotics and minimally invasive surgery.
  • Exhibit both collaborative and self-directed work capabilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate original ideas, evidenced by a history of patents and intellectual property contributions.
  • A motivated outlook with a strong commitment to success as an engineer, as part of a team, and for the company.
  • An inventive mindset balanced with attention to detail and discipline.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of design controls necessary for bringing products to market.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in developing articulating endoscopes and catheters.
  • Familiarity with composite structures, both in experimental and analytical contexts.
  • Experience in taking products from concept to market launch.
  • Background in a start-up environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience in creating and managing project schedules, budgets, and plans.
  • Significant contributions to an intellectual property portfolio, including pending or issued patents.
