Responsibilities

As a Highway Engineer with TranSystems, you will be part of a dynamic team that delivers transportation engineering services on highway, bridge, and rail projects throughout New England and across the country. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing design calculations
  • Researching design alternatives and presenting findings
  • Preparing and reviewing reports, contract drawings, cost estimates, and specifications
  • Communicating regularly with project managers on expected results, workload, and progress
  • Advocating for, leading, and mentoring entry-level engineers
  • Communicating and attending meetings with clients, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders
  • Engaging in business development activities, including information gathering, preliminary design, and proposal writing
  • Developing accurate and consistent engineering designs and plans, meeting project budgets, schedules, and company standards
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge through educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited school
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, AutoCAD, and Microstation
  • Knowledge of AASHTO Green Book and other State DOT Design Manuals
  • Plan production experience, including creating construction plans, typical sections, profiles, cross sections, and developing details
  • Ability to actively engage multiple perspectives when solving problems and encourage reciprocal learning among team members
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible workplace
Preferred Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience working with MassDOT and other local transportation agencies
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D alignments, profiles, and corridor or roadway modeling
  • Familiarity with highway design principles
  • Experience creating plans submission packages
  • Familiarity with Construction Staging & Temporary Traffic Control Plans
