Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transportation Officer to join our team at The GEO Group, Inc. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for securely transporting detainees between destinations and ensuring the safety and proper maintenance of our vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles operated, and provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) at the end of each trip or shift.
  • Ensure that all permits and licenses are in order before beginning a trip, and notify the Transportation Manager if there are any problems.
  • Ensure that vehicles have the necessary safety equipment before initiating a trip, and notify the Transportation Manager if there are any issues.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and reports in an accurate and thorough manner, and ensure that all reports are turned in to the facility according to described policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that detainees are properly secured prior to leaving a facility and while in a vehicle, and obtain all necessary paperwork and reports when obtaining detainees at a facility and delivering them to their appropriate destinations.
  • Follow all safety measures while transporting detainees, including federal, state, municipal, and organizational laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Immediately contact safety authorities and facility management in the event of an accident, and provide detailed information to requesting authorities.
  • Deliver vehicles for servicing and pick them up when ready.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A valid Class B or Class C Chauffeurs Drivers License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement at the time of hire.
  • A current drivers license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years.
  • 80 hours of verified and certified drivers training from an approved company trainer as defined by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of full-time employment experience in law enforcement with powers of arrest or as a Corrections/Detentions Officer or Military Police with experience in security matters related to prisoner handling and detention on a regular basis.
  • Must possess a valid BSIS CA Guard Card to include a firearm permit for a .38 caliber at the time of hire.
  • Must have a chemical agent card at the time of hire.
  • Passing a company and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol test.
  • Ability to work overtime frequently.
  • Ability to travel extended periods of time with frequent overnight stays.
  • Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
  • Must be able to regularly report to work without being late.
  • Ability to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
  • Ability to work up to 16 hours within a rolling 24-hour period.
  • Must be mature, flexible, and able to command the respect and confidence of inmates or detainees and staff, and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Must be able to pass a federal background investigation.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
