HPC Systems Engineer

About the Position

The HPC Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive technical support for high-performance computing services. This position requires a blend of operational expertise and customer interaction to ensure the effective utilization of computational resources.


Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the HPC Systems Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the operational aspects of HPC services, including upgrades, maintenance, and expansion efforts.
  • Consulting with users to promote best practices within the HPC environment, ensuring optimal resource utilization.
  • Assisting users with job submissions and analyzing results post-completion.
  • Representing the Technology Services division in meetings to gather requirements and provide valuable feedback.
  • Monitoring the availability of HPC resources and making recommendations for necessary expansions.
  • Identifying and resolving issues within HPC and ancillary systems, utilizing external support when required.
  • Deploying scientific applications and assisting with user-managed application deployment.
  • Providing technical documentation and support for HPC service security and access management.
  • Updating operational checklists for routine HPC functions.
  • Documenting maintenance, configuration, and management procedures for HPC components and systems.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with at least three years of experience in managing complex LAN/WAN environments. Alternatively, candidates with an Associate's degree and five years of experience, or those with a High School diploma and nine years of experience, will also be considered.


Preferred Skills

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong proficiency in administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems.
  • Experience with Bright Computer Cluster Manager and configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with HPC application deployment tools and experience in genomics/bioinformatics applications.
  • Participation in formal project management frameworks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The role requires:

  • Expertise in HPC orchestration, Linux HPC clusters, and workload managers.
  • Experience with high-performance storage systems and cloud-based HPC implementations.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and batch scripting.
  • Strong interpersonal and planning skills.

Work Environment
