Position Overview
The Engineering Intern will engage in fundamental engineering tasks aimed at supporting manufacturing operations. This role involves assisting in the formulation of standards and procedures. Assignments will have defined objectives that require exploration of a limited number of variables. The intern will contribute to the design of pharmaceutical manufacturing systems, processes, facilities, and machinery while applying and interpreting standard engineering principles, concepts, and techniques. Compliance with pharmaceutical industry standards and regulations is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Scope of Authority
Assigned to a U.S.-based manufacturing site.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manufacturing Process Development (80%)
- Generate change controls for the introduction of new or modified equipment/systems.
- Execute qualification protocols for equipment and systems to ensure compliance with cGMP and company standards.
- Conduct engineering studies related to in-process testing (e.g., net weight verification, seal integrity verification).
- Create and update standard operating procedures for equipment setup, operation, and cleaning.
- Maintain process knowledge and ownership.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives.
- Maintain technical drawings and documentation.
- Manufacturing Process Improvement (20%)
- Utilize standard engineering techniques and criteria to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science program in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant internships in college/university settings.
Knowledge
- Familiarity with FDA regulations, GMP/GLP/GCP, Lean Manufacturing, and Six-Sigma methodologies.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Develop an understanding of cGMP and FDA regulations.
Skills & Abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio).
- Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Effective in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Analytical skills for synthesizing complex information and designing workflows.
- Strong planning and organizational abilities.
- Commitment to quality and safety procedures.
- Adaptability to changing work environments and demands.
Physical Requirements
- Occasional climbing or balancing may be required.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
