Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections and technical assessments of licensee activities concerning radiation safety and the application of both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.
- Evaluate the technical qualifications of applicants, focusing on their education, training, and experience to ensure they can safely manage radiation in compliance with health and environmental standards.
- Select, prepare, and calibrate necessary survey equipment, performing checks as needed, while interpreting measurement outcomes effectively.
- Provide recommendations for enforcement actions or licensing adjustments, including the potential cessation of operations or imposition of penalties.
- Plan and execute comprehensive monitoring inspections in regulated areas to assess the control methods for radiation and radioactive materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Applicants should possess a solid understanding of:
- Principles and practices of radiation safety and environmental protection in various sectors.
- Applications of radiation phenomena and protection principles essential for licensing.
- The regulatory framework governing radiation safety and compliance.
Skills required include:
- Effective communication, both written and verbal, with diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology for technical analysis and reporting.
Ability to:
- Identify and assess safety and regulatory issues.
- Analyze trends in radiation safety technology and recommend improvements.
- Support a diverse workforce and promote an inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline, with a focus on health physics or a related field, along with two years of relevant experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
All candidates must meet educational and experience criteria as outlined above. Additionally, successful completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program is required for newly hired employees.
