Chicago, Illinois, United States Chime Full time

About the Position

In the role of a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer at Chime, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to establish quality standards and the metrics necessary for monitoring them. Your responsibilities will include developing the processes and methodologies required to meet these standards. You will guide our development teams in crafting their testing strategies, leading by example when necessary. Acting as a Quality Product Manager, you will create and enhance a backlog of test automation and product instrumentation tasks, ensuring that development teams focus on coding rather than manual testing. You will also engage in hands-on implementation when required, as we all share a passion for coding and technical challenges.

The ideal candidate will possess experience with at least one complete web technology stack, a keen eye for identifying bugs and design issues, and a mindset oriented towards white/gray box testing. If you are enthusiastic about coding, testing, and have the ambition to build an exceptional testing platform, this opportunity may be a perfect fit for you.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Demonstrate solid coding principles and a thorough understanding of industry best practices.
  • Develop new tools and automation solutions from the ground up to enhance the efficiency of Engineering teams.
  • Collaborate actively with internal teams to gather requirements for new projects, plan, prioritize, and effectively communicate progress to all stakeholders.
  • Allocate appropriate time for support issues, manage priority changes, and set expectations accordingly.
  • Oversee Test Environments, working with TechOps to build and validate these environments.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills to work collaboratively with development teams, external stakeholders, internal operations teams, and senior management on key deliveries and production challenges.
  • Establish and implement a set of quality metrics that track our coverage progress and reflect the member experience.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure resources are current, with a focus on delivering an outstanding user experience.

To excel in this position, you should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, with proficiency in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). Experience with Ruby and/or Python is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Software Engineering, Tools Engineering, or Software Engineering in Test roles.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and managing automated testing processes.
  • Experience testing platform APIs and a solid understanding of end-to-end infrastructure.
  • Experience in creating web-based and UI-based tools is advantageous.
