Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will serve as an independent member of the medical staff and will function as a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). The successful candidate will provide inpatient psychiatric care to patients at the Arizona State Hospital, responsible for psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to assist patients towards stabilization and recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prescribes psychiatric medication and treatment and monitors care and progress towards treatment goals
  • Conducts psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment of patients at the Arizona State Hospital
  • Provides leadership to a multidisciplinary team in the development and implementation of a treatment plan
  • Completes required documentation in the electronic medical record
  • Attends hospital committees and medical staff meetings
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Knowledge of standard and practice in psychiatry, including diagnosis of mental disorders
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment for mental disorders
  • Knowledge of performance management, continuous quality improvement, and Lean methodologies
  • Skills in array of psychiatric treatments, including psycho-pharmacology, diagnosis, and treatment of serious psychiatric conditions
  • Skills in interpreting and evaluating laboratory tests
  • Skills in written and verbal communication, experience in leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work in a psychiatric facility and maintain a positive working relationship with all multidisciplinary team members
  • Ability to learn and adhere to policies and procedures
  • Ability to resolve conflicts
  • Ability to provide quality psychiatric services
Preferred Qualifications:

A Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • A State hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment
  • Must possess a current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner from the Arizona State Board of Nursing
