Job Summary

Excela Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Medical Technician to join our team. As an EMT, you will provide basic life support and emergency pre-hospital care to individuals in emergency situations. Your primary responsibility will be to provide patient care and transportation, ensuring timely and safe transportation of patients to medical facilities.

Essential Job Functions

  • Scheduled to work rotating shifts as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Provide BLS patient care in accordance with approved standing orders and protocols, department policies, and online medical command.
  • Act as a patient advocate and practice good communication techniques to keep patients and families informed regarding their care provision.
  • Complete the appropriate BLS skills lab, CPR, and continuing education credits as required to maintain certification.
  • Operate department vehicles in a safe and lawful manner, reporting all traffic violations and other infractions to the supervisor.
  • Respond to emergencies or calls for assistance in a timely manner, coordinating responses with EMS staff, hospital staff, patients, and family members.
  • Document patient care on the ambulance trip sheet accurately and legibly, in accordance with state and department policies.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License (if out of state, current Department of Motor Vehicle record report required and obtain PA Current Driver License within 30 days of hire).
  • Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) (PA Recognized).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Certified by the PA Department of Health as an EMT-B.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.). Travel may be expected locally between Independence Health System locations.
