The Role

As QuidelOrtho continues to expand, we are looking for a Field Service Engineer. This position is field-based and includes a company vehicle, fuel card, mobile phone, and laptop, with all vehicle maintenance covered by QuidelOrtho. The role involves servicing clients across a designated territory, requiring candidates to be geographically close to clients for timely in-person meetings.

The Responsibilities
  • We seek a qualified individual with experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electromechanical systems, preferably in a field setting. The role involves troubleshooting technical issues and system challenges.
  • Identify technical solutions in line with product and customer specifications, and advise company or customer representatives on coordinated product solutions.
  • Conduct technical assessments of product implementations, modifications, and enhancements based on specific customer requirements.
  • Evaluate customer needs and recommend solutions that align with product specifications.
  • Provide technical training and product briefings to customers, vendors, and company representatives as necessary. Act as the local on-site representative for the customer's organization. Manage all territory responsibilities, including preventive maintenance and upgrades for both software and hardware. This role requires service support in laboratory environments.
  • Oversee individual parts management, online training, and administrative expense reporting.
  • Perform additional work-related tasks as assigned.

Required:

  • Education: A minimum of an Associate's degree in Electronics or Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent military or field service experience (4 years).
  • Experience: At least 4 years of experience in the installation, operation, maintenance, repair, and modification of electromechanical equipment, preferably in the field.
  • A collaborative team player who is self-motivated and interacts effectively with peers, sales teams, and customers.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate ideas clearly, both verbally and in writing, in individual or group settings.
  • Possess relevant technical knowledge and the capability to apply that knowledge effectively in performing job functions, demonstrating a high level of competence in electro-mechanical systems, chemistry, computing, and related fields.
  • Effectively manage assigned workloads within designated timeframes.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Extended hours may be necessary.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel overnight 50-75% for training and up to 75% around the territory post-training, with occasional overnight stays (1-2 nights per week).

Preferred:

  • Experience in the Healthcare or Medical Device sector.

The Work Environment

This role typically involves a workweek with required overtime in an external field engineer capacity. Candidates must possess the discipline, organizational skills, and self-motivation to work independently in a home office setting. Specific vision capabilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regular tasks will involve using hands for various functions, as well as frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and sitting. Occasionally, candidates may need to kneel, squat, or balance. Must be physically capable of traveling up to 75% of the time. A valid driver's license is necessary, and candidates must own and maintain a vehicle suitable for travel to customer locations.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position considers various factors, including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geographic location, and the candidate's abilities, alongside internal equity and market data alignment. At QuidelOrtho, it is uncommon for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the salary range for their role, as compensation decisions depend on the specific circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $85,000, with eligibility for bonuses. QuidelOrtho provides a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick leave), and paid holidays.
