Position Overview:

The CNC Machining Center Programmer is tasked with the programming, setup, and operation of CNC machining centers, utilizing advanced software such as MasterCam or Hypermill to produce machine code that adheres to detailed specifications. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently while managing the setup and programming of multiple machining centers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and reviews setup documentation and specifications to identify optimal setup procedures, machining sequences, and quality standards.
  • Operates a diverse range of machining centers, including 5-axis, 3-axis, and mill-turning equipment.
  • Assembles and positions cutting tools in tool holders and machine spindles as required, utilizing hand tools and inserting cutting tools into designated machine magazines.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of machine controls, including Fanuc and Haas, with the capability to import and execute programs from a database.
  • Monitors machine operations to enhance program efficiency.
  • Measures workpieces for compliance with specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, and Renishaw probes on CNC machining centers.
  • Adjusts machine feeds and speeds, and changes cutters to manufacture parts according to defined specifications.
  • Processes materials beyond metals, including composites and plastics.
  • Conducts inspections and measurements of parts, documenting results on appropriate inspection forms.
  • Analyzes technical drawings, sketches, and design data for parts, tools, gauges, molds, dies, and fixtures to ascertain dimensions and cutting configurations.
  • Prepares instructional sheets and tool lists to facilitate machine setup and operation.
  • Compares encoded computer outputs with original program sheets to ensure the accuracy of machine instructions.
  • Modifies programs to rectify any errors or omissions in instructions.
  • Communicates effectively with the CNC Supervisor and team members to receive guidance and coordinate tasks, reporting any discrepancies or challenges.
  • Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, particularly MasterCam or Hypermill Lathe software.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as safety protocols, operational and maintenance guidelines, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence, with effective communication skills among colleagues.

Education and Experience:

An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution; or three to four years of relevant experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.
