**Job Summary**

The Correctional Sergeant Lead is a key role within the Department of Corrections, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of correctional officers and ensuring the safe and secure management of inmates. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of public safety methods and techniques.

**Responsibilities**

As a Correctional Sergeant Lead, you will be responsible for scheduling, distributing, and guiding the work assignments of protective services staff. You will also supervise inmates, instructing them on work assignments, issuing and retrieving tools, and writing disciplinaries. Additionally, you will carry a weapon, ride a horse to monitor inmates, and prevent attempted escapes. You will maintain accurate inmate counts throughout your shift and perform desk officer duties in assigned buildings.

**Key Skills and Qualifications**

To be successful in this role, you must have a strong knowledge of department policies and procedures. You should also possess excellent problem-solving skills, ability to make sound judgments, and effective communication skills. As a Correctional Sergeant Lead, you will be required to work frequently irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends, and holidays. You must be able to respond to emergency situations and exercise self-defense tactics when necessary.

**Requirements**

This role requires a minimum of two years of experience in correctional security or law enforcement, with at least one year in a leadership capacity. A high school diploma or equivalent is also required. Additional requirements may apply, and applicants must be willing to undergo background checks and random drug testing.
