At Westar Energy, we are seeking a skilled Substation Relay Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Substation Maintenance department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable operation of our power grid.
About the Role
This is a highly technical position that requires expertise in system protection and control of substations. The successful candidate will possess strong skills in industrial controls, microprocessors, power systems, computer/digital instrumentation, local area networks, and telecommunications. They will also have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
Responsibilities
The Substation Relay Specialist will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining apparatus equipment and wiring used in system protection and control of substations. This will involve providing technical support for other departments and working independently or as part of a team to resolve complex issues. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to interpret and use company plans and specifications, as well as have thorough knowledge of company safety rules and practices.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must have a two-year college degree in electronics or equivalent. A four-year Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology degree is preferred. You should also have four years of training as a Technician Apprentice, Relay, and possess the required knowledge, skill, and physical ability to perform any work related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of apparatus equipment and wiring. Additionally, you must have good attendance and a satisfactory work record.
Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or an Associate's degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Utility Substation & Relay Technology, Electrical Utility Substation Technology, Electronic Systems Technology, Electrical & Electromechanical Technology, or Electronics Technology would be advantageous. Equivalent military experience and training may also be considered.
Salary Information
The estimated salary for this position is between $40,950 and $57,570 per year, depending on experience. This is a competitive compensation package that reflects the importance of this role in our organization.
