Wayne County Government seeks an experienced Electrician Journeyman to join our team. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and strong communication skills.

Job Description

The Electrician Journeyman will be responsible for performing electrical work at the journeyman's level, including installing, maintaining, altering, and repairing electrical systems and equipment.

This includes repairing electrical wiring and fixtures, ensuring that work is in accordance with relevant codes.

The Electrician will also install or service lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems, working under the general supervision of an Electrician foreman, Sub-Foreman, or Division Director of Facilities Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, schedule, train, and assign work to electricians.
  • Supervise Electrician staff.
  • Work independently with little supervision and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections.
  • Plan, layout, and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Use a variety of tools or equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools or power tools.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment such as motors.
  • Direct or train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Completion of an Apprenticeship Program.
  • Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations.

Shift Availability:

MULTIPLE SHIFTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS POSITION.

1st Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm

2nd Shift: 3:00pm - 11:30pm

The estimated salary range for this position is $50,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
