Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Rochester Regional Health. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, selecting the phlebotomy site taking into consideration the condition of the patient and site, age group and the type of test requested by the health care provider.
  • Insure that all specimens are properly, accurately and completely labeled, and that the proper documentation initiating testing is submitted with all required documentation.
  • Contact the appropriate patient care unit, physician office or outpatient clinic when specimens are incorrectly identified or submitted, obtaining additional needed information and/or patient information in order to insure proper testing and interpretive data is received.
  • Evaluate requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, insuring that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
  • Follow uniform and standardized procedures for accomplishing cultures and testing on submitted tissue, body fluids and specimens including the steps, sequence of steps, strength of solutions, etc.
  • Conduct quality control procedures on instrumentation, equipment, reagents, stains and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
  • Recognize and immediately act through appropriate means and channels regarding unusual instrumentation or reagent quality control results.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in an accredited program by ASCP
  • Registered as Medical Laboratory Technician with the ASCP
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position working 7.5 hours per day, days only. The physical demands of this position require frequent walking, standing or squatting, and exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $26.54 - $38.08 per hour. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
