Project Overview:
Bechtel is collaborating with NextDecade to realize their vision of providing access to lower carbon-intensive energy through the Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG) project. This initiative involves the construction of a natural gas liquefaction and export terminal on a 984-acre site along the Brownsville ship channel. The initial phase includes three liquefaction trains, two storage tanks, and one marine berth, with a total production capacity of 27 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) upon completion.

Job Summary:
The Tanks Erection Superintendent will oversee and manage operations within the tank construction discipline. This role involves supervising craft personnel, subordinate supervisors, and ensuring that construction activities adhere to specifications, schedules, and budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) initiatives for the tank and storage department, including the development and enforcement of safety protocols.
- Conduct site inspections to identify and rectify unsafe conditions and practices.
- Coordinate safety training in collaboration with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
- Promote a culture of ZERO Accident Philosophy, ensuring compliance with local and national safety standards.
- Monitor craft activities to ensure adherence to specifications and timelines.
- Manage labor costs and optimize craft labor while maintaining the overall construction schedule.
- Collaborate with Labor/Industrial Relations for recruitment and training of craft personnel.
- Review craft time records using established automated systems.
- Oversee subcontractor equipment and personnel mobilization and demobilization.
- Implement corporate project policies and procedures within tank operations.
- Ensure that current design documents are utilized for construction and that all design modifications receive approval prior to execution.
- Provide input for quantity tracking applications and review weekly installed quantities for Project Controls.
- Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables, coordinating with Procurement.
- Assist in construction testing as necessary.
- Plan required manpower and equipment for project execution.
- Generate reports and forecasts on construction progress, personnel needs, and expenditures.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training opportunities for tank personnel.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Coordinate with other discipline superintendents and client representatives to achieve project objectives.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in supervising tank construction, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead change effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods for full containment LNG tank construction, including expertise in carbon steel, aluminum, and 9% Ni plate erection and welding.
- Experience in a field construction environment, with familiarity in specifications, vendor procedures, and relevant codes.
- Understanding of welding processes and the operation of heavy construction equipment.
- Technical proficiency in tank construction tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of cryogenic insulation requirements and Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
- Experience in heavy industrial direct hire construction.
- Proficient in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and provide mentorship to junior team members.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- The role requires extensive walking on construction sites, climbing ladders and scaffolding, and working in confined spaces.
- Some lifting may be necessary.
- Flexibility in work schedule is required, including potential night or split shifts.
