About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Nurse Practitioner to join our team at UT Health Science Center. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide advanced nursing care to patients in a surgical setting, working closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex patient assessments and physical examinations, and provide appropriate treatment.
  • Coordinate, direct, and implement patient care plans, working collaboratively with surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures as delegated by the supervising physician, and manage pre-operative and post-operative patients in coordination with the faculty supervising physician.
  • Utilize advanced assessment skills to anticipate complex patient problems specific to surgery, and communicate information to supervising/attending physicians.
  • Order, conduct, and interpret pertinent laboratory and diagnostic studies and procedures, and make medical recommendations and/or referrals as needed.
  • Formulate, implement, and evaluate outcome-based treatment plans, and maintain accurate records detailing patient treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Facilitate patient education relating to medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or postsurgical care, and collaborate with patients, families, and other clinicians to assist in patient recovery.
  • Respond to emergency situations, and perform other duties as assigned by the supervising physician.
Requirements
  • Current Texas licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - NP.
  • Current RN First Assist Certification and specialty certification as required by department.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or specialty certification as required by department.
  • Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters degree in Nursing with completion of a post-masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.
  • None; previous experience in a surgical specialty is preferred.
