Senior Mechanical Engineer

The University of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Design Services team within Facilities Management. As a key member of a multi-discipline team, you will be responsible for providing design services for a wide range of University renovations, including classrooms, labs, healthcare facilities, athletic facilities, and student housing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage scope, schedule, and budget for new projects in collaboration with Project Managers and stakeholders.
  • Prepare design documents for HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection using Revit for most projects.
  • Assign tasks to project team members and assist in resolving complex or challenging issues.
  • Provide engineering calculations and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy of construction documents as well as compliance with building codes and the University's Facility Design Guidelines.
  • Perform construction administration services, including submittal reviews, punchlist inspections, and project closeout.
  • Prepare feasibility studies to assess project viability and provide recommendations.
  • Adhere to and assist in developing department standards.
  • Develop and maintain project workbooks using eBuilder.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects and engineers, University stakeholders, and others.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Work Experience: Seven years of mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical systems (Revit preferred).
  • Licensure: Professional Engineer required.

Physical Demands: The employee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend, and twist in order to perform their work. The employee must travel around job sites. The employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions.
