Sterile Processing Specialist II

The Central Sterile and Reprocessing (CSR) department plays a vital role in ensuring that patient care units are consistently stocked with sterilized, non-chargeable items. CSR staff are tasked with verifying the expiration dates of sterile supplies located in each clinical department's storage area. In instances where sterile supplies are stored in decentralized locations, it is the responsibility of patient care personnel to check these dates. Additionally, patient care staff must ensure that reusable, soiled supplies and equipment are placed in designated dirty utility rooms.
CSR personnel conduct daily rounds to collect reusable equipment and supplies that require decontamination and sterilization. They are also responsible for the procurement of disposable supplies for the operating room.
Key Responsibilities
CSR staff are involved in the following activities:
1. Assembling reusable instrument sets.
2. Assisting in the preparation of case carts.
3. Cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing all reusable instruments for various patient care settings, including physician offices and community health centers.
Qualifications
Education:
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Must maintain certification annually (12 hours of continuing education units).
Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience at a relevant health facility or possession of a Sterile Processing Certification. At least one year of experience in sterile processing is required.
