OBJECTIVE OF YOUR ROLE:

The main objective of your role is to ensure the safety and well-being of patients undergoing MRI procedures and to maintain a secure MRI environment.

You will conduct patient interviews utilizing the MRI screening form as a reference.

Follow-up on potential contraindications will involve reviewing Hospital Records, Primary Care Records, Medical Manufacturers Websites, and other pertinent resources.

You will educate patients about the procedure they are about to undergo and address any inquiries or concerns they may have.

You will assist patients in transitioning to the MRI suite and positioning them for the MRI examination. You will be responsible for setting up and dismantling MRI equipment and sanitizing all patient contact surfaces between examinations.

Maintaining CPR certification through the American Heart Association is essential, as you will need to assist in medical emergencies.

You will uphold the confidentiality of patient information and assist with scheduling and clerical tasks as required. You will perform MRI examinations in alignment with established protocols and procedures. You will be accountable for making technical and medical decisions that cater to patient needs and ensure high-quality imaging. You will communicate effectively with referring physicians and radiologists to confirm the appropriateness of the exam protocol. You will adjust technical parameters to achieve optimal imaging quality. You will adhere to established dosing guidelines and observe Universal Precautions and Sterile Technique when administering contrast. You will strive to comfort and reassure patients who may experience claustrophobia. You will work to enhance the MRI program through exceptional patient care and positive interactions with patients.

AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an MRI Technologist, you are authorized to obtain medical histories, access patient medical information, and share relevant details about the MRI examination with other medical personnel.

You have the authority to assess patients and make decisions regarding contrast reactions and other medical emergencies. You can discontinue or cancel examinations if patient safety or cooperation is compromised.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain a safe and secure MRI environment. Conduct thorough patient interviews. Research medical implants and other potential contraindications.

Prepare and inform patients for examinations with sensitivity to their physical limitations, language barriers, cultural identity, or other factors that may affect the MRI process.

Communicate patient information effectively to the patient coordinator. Address patient concerns and provide reassurance to those who may be anxious about the MRI procedure. Set up and dismantle MRI coils, cushions, and linens. Sanitize patient contact surfaces between examinations. Assist in positioning and transferring patients with physical limitations. Maintain CPR certification. Respect patient confidentiality. Undertake scheduling and clerical functions as needed. Participate in the hiring and training of technical and clerical staff. Make technical adjustments to the scanner based on MRI knowledge and accepted practices. Adapt technical and physical settings to accommodate patient needs, including age-related considerations. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including referring physicians, radiologists, patients, their families, nursing staff, and radiology personnel. Troubleshoot technical issues and collaborate with support teams to resolve them.

Document, edit, and finalize examinations in the designated system, ensuring timely communication with relevant departments.

Maintain a clean and safe MRI unit. Be familiar with emergency codes and procedures. Be capable of operating essential medical equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • ARRT MRI certification with a valid state license.
  • BLS certification.
  • IV competency.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as an MRI Technologist.
  • Familiarity with GE 1.5 Tesla scanner and associated software.
  • Knowledge of MRI safety protocols and procedures.
