We are seeking a skilled Behavioral Health Technician to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will play a vital role in providing patient care and support in our behavioral health unit.
Key Responsibilities- Delivery of Care
- Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs) according to hospital procedures and report any abnormal findings or changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse in charge.
- Conduct 15-minute checks to ensure patient safety and maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Assist with the check-in process, including obtaining initial vital signs and completing admission paperwork.
- Restock rooms and maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to established infection control policies.
- Documentation
- Document vital signs, weights, activity, intake and outputs, and ADL care provided to patients in the computer system.

- Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and standards of behavior, adhering to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Meet business needs of the department with regular and reliable attendance.
- Maintain current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practice and reflect knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Complete all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Be knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Must be at least 16 years old if meeting the requirements under license/certification.
- Successful completion and documentation of one of the following:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program and waiting for NCLEX re-examination.
- Certified Nursing Assistant listed as either Active or Inactive on any state health care worker registry.
- EMT-B licensure.
- Medical Assistant.
- Must be enrolled in Trinity's PCT on-the-job training program and successfully complete.
- Successful completion of the first semester of nursing school that includes Nursing Fundamentals.
- Current CPR certification.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English.
- Multicultural sensitivity.
- Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
- Customer/patient-focused.
- Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
