Job Summary

The Nurse Manager II is responsible for the 24-hour management of a specific patient care unit or service in settings designated by the Chief Nursing Officer and/or Director, Patient Care Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and interprets policies for the assigned unit or service.
  • Schedules and supervises assigned employees to ensure the quality of care provided to patients and families.
  • Manages unit-based budgetary and human resource activities.
  • Coordinates the delivery of patient care for assigned units or services.
  • Develops and monitors staffing patterns to ensure sufficient and properly prepared personnel are available to meet patient needs.
  • Performs human resource management activities, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, coaching, performance planning, competency assessment, and terminating assigned staff.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to plan, develop, and monitor annual capital, operational, and personnel budgets for assigned units or services.
  • Coaches, directs, supports, and evaluates educational and research activities for assigned staff.
  • Develops quality indicators specific to the units' patient population and monitors quality of care using established benchmarks.
  • Ensures that age-appropriate supplies and equipment are available to meet the needs of populations served by the unit or service.
  • Identifies, plans, implements, and evaluates various long-term and short-term projects to meet patient or organizational needs.
  • Prepares, implements, and evaluates unit goals and objectives.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates personal performance objectives (including KRA's) on a yearly basis.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • The Nurse Manager II has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Three (3) years RN experience, including two (2) years in an appropriate area of nursing. Nursing Management/Supervisory experience preferred.

Preferred Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Current South Carolina R.N. License.
  • Certified in nursing specialty - preferred.
