The Youth Psychiatric Specialist plays a crucial role within a collaborative team, conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments, management services, care coordination, and follow-up for children and adolescents facing diverse mental and behavioral health challenges. This role may also involve supporting young adults in transition.

The Youth Psychiatric Specialist will:
- Deliver direct clinical services through psychiatric evaluations, management, care coordination, and medication oversight for children and adolescents, including transitional youth.
- Utilize the latest Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders for accurate assessment and diagnosis.
- Collaborate with caregivers, educational professionals, and community organizations to ensure coordinated and individualized treatment plans.
- Integrate care with both internal and external mental health and physical health providers.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests as clinically appropriate.
- Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, ensuring compliance and addressing side effects.
- Advocate for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders when suitable.
- Educate patients and families on chronic health issues, healthy lifestyle choices, and medication management.
- Engage in case reviews and contribute to the development of psychiatric programs and policies.
- Participate in on-call rotations as assigned.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment, adhering to infection control and waste disposal protocols.
- Utilize motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care approaches in service delivery.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and in compliance with CNS standards.
- Meet productivity and documentation expectations as outlined by the agency.
- Stay informed about compliance with quality care initiatives and regulatory requirements.
- Foster a professional growth mindset through continuous education and training.
Required:
- Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a residency in Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Active Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP) credential within 90 days of hire.
- Board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Unrestricted Michigan medical license and controlled substance license.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in managing crises and behavioral interventions for youth.
- Proficiency in medical terminology relevant to mental health.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Michigan Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- At least one year of experience in a clinical setting providing services to children and adolescents.
- Completion of a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship.
- Familiarity with community mental health systems and regulations.
