Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled professional to fill the position of Associate Vice Chancellor of Construction and Facilities Planning. This role will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of new, remodeled, and renovated facilities across the district. The successful candidate will lead a team of professionals in ensuring that all capital projects are functional, sustainable, well-designed, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and supervise various programs, projects, and activities related to facilities planning, design, and construction.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to a department of planning, design, and construction professionals.
  • Establish departmental policies and operating procedures to ensure capital projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement programs to increase efficiencies, extend capital life cycle maintenance, and improve staff productivity.
  • Prepare and administer the annual department operating budget.
  • Supervise the preparation of capital project program plans, estimates, and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with architects, engineers, planning and design consultants, project managers, construction managers, and other professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and codes, including the Uniform Building Code, California Architectural Barriers Laws, and the California Public Contracts Code.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize capital projects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote sustainable planning, design, and construction practices.
  • Provide regular updates and progress reports to district leadership.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, public administration, business, construction, or a related technical field.
  • At least five years of increasing complex experience in planning, design, or construction.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.
  • Substantial experience leading and managing a design or facilities division, department, or unit, as well as considerable experience working in or with community colleges or other institutions of higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing capital budgeting processes and coordinating project cost estimating.
  • Demonstrated experience in selecting and managing planning and design, and construction consultants.
  • Extensive experience, knowledge, and demonstrated ability to organize, direct, and successfully implement planning, design, and construction of capital projects in a higher education setting.
  • California Community College facility project management experience.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and codes, including the Uniform Building Code, California Architectural Barriers Laws, and the California Public Contracts Code.
  • Ability to conduct strategic planning, plan, organize, and direct staff and resources.
  • Ability to interact successfully and professionally with district staff, external vendors, government representatives, and the public.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing at an administrative level, and work collaboratively with a large and diverse group of constituents.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students and employees.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $197,003.82 annually, with a maximum entry-level salary of $157,746.55 annually. The district offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
